Alright, I'll be honest and straight forward here: I don't love Canadian politics, or any for that matter. That being said, I try to stay informed and up to date on what's going on with the Canadian landscape.
In the past I have voted almost exclusively liberal, although I'd prefer NDP but am not a Conservative fan. I don't like Stephen Harper. He's come off as cold and uncaring and just not my type of person. That being said, he has grown on me (a bit) and I don't really have a problem with what's happened the past few years, so I don't have any major complaints. I was essentially okay with the way the government is. I'm not interested in seeing an election simply because it's a waste of money, I prefer a minority government anyways and I don't think an election will change much anyways. Not to mention, I'm not a huge fan of Michael Ignatieff either.... not sure why, I'm just not.
Needless to say, my vote was up in the air. Waaaaay up in the air.
Then my phone rang this morning.
Husband: "Hello".... "May I ask who's calling?"............................................ "Nadine, it's the conservative party of Canada calling...."
Me: "Hello?"
Dude on phone: "Hi, I'm calling on behalf of the Conservative Party of Canada. The Liberal Coalition has forced an election this spring, can we count on your vote?"
Me: "Who caused the election?"
Dude: "The Liberal Coalition"
Me: "Who's that consist of?? Just the Liberal party??"
Dude: "....um... yes"
Me: "So just the Liberals, all by themselves caused this election?"
Dude: "....ummmm.... well it's a minority government...."
Me: "Wasn't there a vote in which case the Conservative Party was over thrown by all the other parties?"
Dude: "I don't know what happened"
Me: "Oh, okay. What was your questions?"
Dude: "Will you vote for the Conservative Party?"
Me: "I don't think so"
Alright, is it just me, or is it somewhat unethical for the Conservative Party to be calling around saying the Liberal party forced this election?? Isn't that a lie?? How are they allowed to do this??
